Associate Professor Sydney Ch'ng, MBBS, PhD, FRACS
Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, Head and Neck Surgery, Melanoma

Associate Professor Sydney Ch’ng was jointly appointed to the Departments of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, Head & Neck Surgery and Melanoma at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and Chris O’Brien Lifehouse in 2013 upon her return from post-FRACS training overseas. She is an Associate Professor in Surgery at the University of Sydney.
Associate Professor Ch’ng received her medical degree from the University of Melbourne. She undertook General Surgery training before specialising in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. During her training, she participated in the Surgeon Scientist Programme of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, and completed a PhD in the molecular biology of advanced skin cancers. Upon qualification as a Board certified Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon, she undertook fellowship training in Head and Neck Surgical Oncology at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in 2011. Her further sub-specialty training took her overseas to Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Taiwan for experience in adult facial trauma, and subsequently to Houston, Texas. She was a Microsurgery Fellow at M D Anderson Cancer Center from July 2012 – July 2013 as part of the American Society of Reconstructive Microsurgery fellowship programme.
Associate Professor Ch’ng’s clinical and research interests include advanced skin cancers, complex facial and head & neck reconstruction, facial reanimation (for oncologic and non-oncologic etiologies of facial palsy), supermicrosurgery (perforator flaps and lymphatic surgery) and facial trauma. Her cross-specialty training has led to expertise in reconstruction for both functional recovery and aesthetic restoration. She is an examiner for the Clinical Examination with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. She is a member of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons, Australian and New Zealand Head & Neck Cancer Society, Melanoma Institute of Australia, AOCMF, and Sydney Facial Nerve Service.
She is married to Gerald, a transplant anaesthetist and proud Kiwi. They enjoy travelling and good food.
